Social Networks For Dental Marketing
Social Networking is a huge phenomenon that has taken itself widespread throughout the Internet. It seems as though almost everyone has either a Myspace or Facebook account, and uses it regularly. Specific industries are taking advantage of this concept as well. You can find industry specific social networks all over the internet. But why are we not hearing more about this in our very own Dental Industry? We should not be left behind. Dentists need to be able to advertise themselves as well as their practice. Each dentist has marketability individually, even without a dental practice. There is no better way to market an Individual online than through social networking.

Dentists should not be left behind in this momentum that is taking place with Internet marketing. If you are a dentist, go to Facebook.com, Linkedin.com and any other social network of your choice and create an account. Upload photos, share your profile etc. Advertise yourself as a “Doctor” and you will find your online reputation grow. Your practice website traffic will increase and thus, generating more new patients to your office. If you don’t know where to get started, leave a comment to this article with your questions and I personally will help you get started.

This is the benefit I believe most people are missing out on the social networks boom. Any one group of people can network together and be much more powerful as a unified voice instead of a single voice. Good article.

Wow, Facebook would be a horrible idea. Social networking site like that an not for professionals. Facebook is for the youth of the world to share photo, and interests, and should not be used for a professional service, especially medical.
Linkedin would be a better choice, but has a target audience of entrepreneurs and business services.
The best choice, though I have little experience with the site itself, Vimo is a site for heathcare specifically that allows for searching, commenting, and rating of MDs. I’ve had a number of conversations with one of the creators and despite them selling services online, this would be the place to build a reputation as a great doctor.
But the reality is that there is no Social Networking for MDs (or more specifically, dentists). It’s a different generation then what our established doctors grew up in. If you’re a doctor, I’d say the best way to have an established online presence would be to do a search for “rate your doctor”, pick the top 5, and begin to establish yourself.

I have to agree with you Mike. There are still some organizations that haven’t yet expose to this great opportunity and missing chances to be known in the rest of the world. Creating a community online of a specific network helps organization acquires additional knowledge by means of sharing ideas and experiences.

It remains to be seen if niche social network sites can be succesful. There is no question that those that are aimed at the general population and at 20 or 30 somethings are wildly successful. But these are huge categories. I have seen somethings available for health care professionals, dentaltow etc.

Yes, I agree, its important for most industries to keep up to date with how this technology can benefit them. We’ve been invovled in setting up this site, specifically for the dental profession - http://www.dentist-networks.com/ , its in the early stages, but I hope its a good start to allowing dentist to communicate in this way, and also promote themselves. I agree with the statement above. Plenty of niche opportunities to band together. Interesting post with applications in multiple fields - Thanks
